  The representatives of this subfamilies of THERAPHOSIDAE, except for Ischnocolinae, are exclusively distributed throughout the American continents and the related areas.

 

 

Remarks:

The monogeneric Subfamily SPELOPELMINAE Smith, 1994 (Mexican cave dwelling tarantulas) was synonymized with THERAPHOSINAE by Pérez-Miles & Locht, 2003).

The monogeneric Subfamily ACANTHOPELMINAE Smith, 1994 was transferred from THERAPHOSINAE to ISCHNOCOLINAE by Pérez-Miles et al., 1996 due to the absence of abdominal urticating hairs and keels on embolus.

Subfamily GRAMMOSTOLINAE Mello-Leitao, 1923 was synonymized with THERAPHOSINAE by Raven, 1985.
